Fixing Leak on a Delta Single-handled Ball-type Bathroom Faucet: How Can I Take Off Stucked Cap?
l am trying to fix a leak on a Delta single-handled ball-type bathroom
faucet. l know what to do, but l am stuck literally. After l unscrewed and
removed the handle, l cannot take off the cap/nut to remove the ball-part.
l used my channel-lock wrench and turned it counter-clock wise, but the
cap will not unscrew. l have spread the part with WD-40, but nothing. Are
there any ideas how to loosen this part?
You might try tapping around the cap with a hammer to try to
break it loose. Don't beat it hard enough to dent it or anything, just
tap it all the way around to try to loosen it. Good luck! Maybe if you'd
try vicegrips instead of the channel locks.
I have the same problem. This has to be a pretty common issue
so i'm surprised there aren't more out there. I was about to try WD-40,
sorry to hear that didn't work. I read a site that suggested using
distilled vinegar and another one that suggested lime-away to loosen the
hard water deposits/corrosion. Also to tape up both the cap and the
channel lock jaws with electrical tape so you can crank on it without
damaging the faucet. I will be trying it and responding if it works.
Is there a set screw on the back side holding it in place?
You might want to consider upgrading to a washerless two handle system.
They are easy to install.
